My professor teaches from his heart. You can really feel the depth of his experience with jiujitsu in every technique he carefully explains. Been a part of Team Papakōlea family since 2016 and our experience has been amazing! Both of my kids, along with many family members, have all been under the instruction of Prof Kaleo and it has benefitted us greatly! My kids both dealt with bullying issues and joining TPJJ has definitely given them a sense of confidence and has allowed them to stand up for themselves. Absolutely love this OHANA at TPJJ. From the time you step foot in the door or on the mats at the park the aloha from the team is beyond amazing. Welcoming, knowledge, kind people. Professor Kaleo taught two back takes from a pinch shrug as well as a half guard sweep in one class and I left class feeling confident I understand them enough to keep drilling them back home. My training partners gladly helped me make the needed adjustments during drilling and let me work during the open mat even though they could have smashed me. Well worth the drop in fee. Thank you Team Papakolea for your hospitality.

As a 60 yr old new comer to jujitsu, I wanted a workout but worried about getting hurt and fitting in. Coach Kaleo is very welcoming and informative. From the first day I was welcomed and there was a warm feeling of ohana to the whole group. The art of jujutsu takes me a long time to learn and eventually incorporate in real-time sparing. But on a class to class level it is still possible to try your very hardest against any opponent without getting hurt. Everyone is welcoming, respectful and non judgemental. It is a safe place for an old guy to learn something new. But make no mistake, the the members of the group are obviously at an exceptional skill level and will help you develop in any way you would like. Highly recommended.

I joined TPJJ in January 2017 and it’s been an amazing and life changing 8 years. Professor Kaleo and his coaching staff welcomed me with open arms, treated me like family, and has taught me jiu jitsu and life lessons for on and off the mats.Professor Kaleo teaches nearly every class himself and is more than willing to pass on his vast jiu jitsu knowledge to his students while still promoting an ego free environment. He’s an amazing coach who wants you to excel as a jiu jitsu practitioner while also making an effort to get to know you not only as his student but also as a friend.Adult classes are twice daily (AM and PM) Monday through Thursday, open mats after every class and on Friday mornings, and another class Saturday afternoons. Kids classes are every afternoon Monday through Thursday, and another class Saturday mornings. Most classes are held at the main Kakaako location, and the Tues/Thursday PM classes are held at Papakolea Community Park. Gi classes are on Mon/Tues/Saturday and no-gi classes are on Wednes/Thursdays.Every class will challenge you physically and mentally with drills and self defense and “sport” jiu jitsu techniques.
