I started training with Mike four months ago after getting a stern talking-to from my doctor about needing to make some serious lifestyle changes. She encouraged me to start strength training. Sounds simple enough—until you go down the fitness rabbit hole on the internet trying to figure out where to start. That’s where Mike and Genetics Gym come in.When you start working with Mike, the first few weeks of workouts are designed to assess your current fitness level, flush out any mobility issues, and include conversations about your long-term fitness goals. After the assessment period, Mike uses the results to design a personalized program to help you achieve those goals. The best part of the program for me is that Mike provides the where, when, and what, and all I have to think about is tying my shoes, showing up for an hour, and pushing the weights around. This is really what you’re paying for. It’s not a traditional gym membership—it’s a full-service fitness program. Workouts are scheduled and tracked through an app and are varied enough that they don’t get boring. With all the workouts being scheduled, I’m generally there with the same five or six people every morning, so it’s never very crowded. Mike floats from person to person, helping set up equipment, providing a spot, explaining a new lift or movement, correcting form, and answering questions. I’m usually in and out in just under an hour. Everyone at the gym is friendly and welcoming, with a wide range of ages and fitness levels, and it’s not intimidating at all. We’re all there for the same reason. I'm glad I took the leap and join Genetics Gym.
