I came to tupelo from dallas to visit some family for thanksgiving and really wanted to get some nogi rolls in while I was in in town. I messaged Cody about dropping in for a class and he gave me the schedule. I dropped in that night and had a great open mat with the guys there. The team there had a different style than what I am used to, but we definitely had a great time rolling. They even invited me back the next day for another open mat. I was a little nervous that a new gym would be super aggressive to people that randomly stopped by, but I was completely wrong. Everyone was super respectful and excited to have me there. Overall I got smashed more than I smashed them, but it was a great experience and exactly what I needed during my visit. I'll definitely be stopping by here anytime I'm in town! Last Thursday I was asked to come teach Tupelo Jiu-Jitsu Academy by Cody Floyd. To be asked to teach at another Blackbelts Academy in itself is humbling, but especially one as talented as Cody. His new Academy is beautiful and has a fun friendly environment. I even had some great friends come from Ponotoc to train with us, Johnathan Jburd Burdine and Brian White. After some hard training we all went across the street and ate dinner. Not just “the higher belts”, but anyone who wanted to go. It reminded me a lot of my Academy and how we all get along.
