It is two months since I had my bilateral eye operation which involved cataract removal and lense replacement. Due to cataracts decided to have new lenses. I was recommended by the optician to use Dan Nguyen and I was so pleased that I made an appointment. After a detailed consultation he suggested I have both eyes done at the same time. I was so glad I decided to take this way, rather than having an imbalance for a few weeks. I was really surprised to find I had cataracts, had assumed I needed glasses and because I didn't want that initially, I tried contact lenses, but my prescription was difficult due to an astigmatism. So a final eye test finally confirmed what was happening and the reason I could barely see the golf ball or targets beyond 100yds. Not to mention the glare when driving at night. Due to my high prescription, I found that my glasses and/or contact lenses just were seemingly just not ideal for me any more. Also, with having the first signs of cataracts developing too, I decided to take my optician's recommendation to have a chat with Mr Nguyen. Mr Nguyen is a very likeable man who chatted with me about my ideas of what I hoped for after lens replacement surgery. Of course, I had apprehensions about this decision, but Mr Nguyen listened to me and we discussed what would be the likely outcome of the surgery. He certainly put my mind at ease. I opted for lenses which would give me the best distance vision, and was happy to accept that I'd still need reading glasses for close up work. This was my personal choice. The procedure was as explained, and Mr Nguyen talked me through the operation as it was happening which I found reassuring and helpful. There was no pain or even discomfort during the procedure for me and any worries I had about the operation were certainly not warranted. I had both of my eyes done on the same day, and had to wear clear eye-shields until the next morning, and then only at bedtime for a week. Eyedrops were given to me to use (along with a concise sheet of paper indicating the times of day to use them). I have worn contact lenses for 50 years and to finally see as well as with them, but without them, was really fantastic. Mr Nguyen is a man who I can recommend so very highly and I'm so happy, not only in choosing Mr Nguyen for the procedure, but also with the results too! I had cataracts which were causing poor vision and my optical prescription to change rapidly, so I contacted Dan Nguyen for help. After an initial (free, no obligation) Zoom consultation, I went to meet him at the Spire Yale. At all times Mr. Nguyen was pleasant, friendly and professional – I was very at ease with him. My eyes were thoroughly examined, and then we discussed treatment options for lens replacement. Mr. Nguyen explained the pros and cons of the various lens types available, and we agreed on what we both felt was the best option for me to be as glasses independent as possible. Finally, he explained the surgical procedure, the risks involved, and gave me an honest indication of the results we’d be most likely to achieve. I cannot recommend highly enough the Consultant Ophthalmologist Dan Nguyen. He has been monitoring my eyes for several years due to raised pressures and developing cataracts. His manner is impeccable, extremely professional but also welcoming and approachable. Recently the thickness of my cataracts was threatening an increase in eye pressures and removal of the cataracts was recommended. Both my cataracts have now been replaced by implant lenses with excellent results. His care has been meticulous. The pre-operative discussion was thorough and the possible choice and combination of lenses well explained. I chose different strengths for each lens and now have fantastic vision in both eyes, am able to read everything (including music) and drive without glasses and the threat of raised pressures has receded. I had surgery to remove cataracts on both eyes, involving removing the old lenses and replacing them. I was nervous and accepted the tablets offered to help me relax, but I need not have worried. The operation was painless and didn't even cause any discomfort. I have needed glasses or contact lenses since I was 10, with my eyesight getting progressively worse. When I saw Mr Nguyen for the follow-up consultation, I was given an eye test and told that I now had better than 20:20 vision. It was like a miracle. For a while afterwards I kept thinking, 'It's time to take my contact lenses out,' before realising that I no longer needed either lenses or glasses, except for a pair of cheap over-the-counter glasses to make reading small print a little more comfortable. At my first consultation Mr Nguyen examined my eyes, explained the options available and patiently encouraged me to ask questions. I could barely string a sentence together the thought of cataract surgery terrified me. My vision had been poor since childhood, I had stopped driving at night and knew I needed help. I relied on varifocal glasses and contact lenses, one for distance and the other for intermediate vision, which I was comfortable using, so I chose the option of bilateral cataract surgery with enhanced lens implants with a degree of monovision. The difference it has made is amazing even on the first surgery day I could see the sport on TV and my worst eye had become my best. Mr Nguyen is professional, calm, patient and reassuring and was happy to discuss my concerns before surgery and in the period before the final check-up. Eye drops were used to numb the eye, there was no pain, sensation or pressure at all during surgery. Mr Nguyen talked me through each stage of surgery which was completed in around 20 minutes. The only discomfort I felt was when the anaesthetic wore off the 2nd eye, this was eased by using the eye drops and was back to normal the next day. Surgery on both eyes and final check-up were done within 8 weeks. I can clearly see the bottom line of the test chart and all but the smallest paragraph of the reading test card. I never imagined the results could be this amazing, I am so grateful to Mr Nguyen and the Spire team and will not hesitate to use their services if needed in the future. Less

I had a dense cataract in my right eye and a smaller cataract in my left eye and the thought of having eye surgery did give some concerns but I only have praise for Mr Nguyen, From the initial consultation he showed true professionalism and was happy to answer any questions I had. The cataract surgery is painless and restored vision in my right eye the same day which was truly amazing and the follow up review results showed the surgery has restored 20;20 vision in that eye. Having been apprehensive about having to have cataract surgery, wondering what the outcome would be like, I needn’t have been at all concerned. With the help and guidance from Mr Nguyen, I had a multi-focal lens fitted in one eye and an accommodating lens fitted in the other, the result being 20 20 vision without the need to wear glasses at all. The procedure itself was completely painless and was over in a relatively few short minutes. Mr Nguyen explained the whole process very clearly in a very professional but personal manner, and was re-assuring throughout. His team of colleagues, from the start to finish, were also very supportive, sympathetic and re-assuring. My 88 year old mother who has moderate to advance stage dementia had cataracts removed in both eyes recently by Dr Dan Nguyen. From the initial consultation through to the surgery and aftercare the support and advice received directly from Dr Nguyen was excellent. As a family, we were involved in decision making especially with regard to whether or not to have both eyes done at the same time but also whether or not to have anaesthetic. I had a significant cataract in my right eye, which affected my personal and professional life considerably. By having my surgery done privately, I could choose from a variety of lenses, not just the long-distance monofocal provided by the NHS. Mr Nguyen discussed my options and I decided to go for an extended depth of focus lens. This gives similar clarity at distance as the monofocal, but also provides far better vision in the mid-range (an area in which we do so many things). Mr Nguyen also recommended that, as that eye has astigmatism, I go for a lens with a toric correction. It is only three weeks since my surgery and I'm already delighted with my new lens. I can see extremely well across a range of distances without glasses, and wear just cheap specs for close up reading. I cannot recommend Mr Nguyen enough - he talked me through every step of the process and provided me with the information to choose a lens that was ideal for my eye and lifestyle. Less
