Avoid this place….seriously.I had a very disappointing experience at this salon. Initially, I was considering not having any extensions at all, but the consultation here convinced me otherwise. The person I had the consult with assured me their K-tip extensions would be a great option for me because they are pain-free, which was addressing my main concern which was pain. I’ve realized that this consultation was just a sales pitch and nothing that they said was actually true, i was deceived. My first clue something wasn’t right at this salon the day of the installation, the hairdresser skipped their own “essential” preparation steps and went directly from coloring and conditioning to installing the extensions. Immediately after the installation, I experienced severe pain on my scalp and extensions were falling out. When I reached out, they for the first time told me it was actually normal for the first two weeks to be in pain. After two weeks, the pain persisted and got worse which they said was not normal and based off research one reason is due to improper installation. Another reason could be the hair they sold and installed on me was was way too heavy in volume. They acknowledged there might be an issue but refused any refund, citing a contract I signed without verbally explaining the terms.During the removal appointment, I was in tears as I lost a significant amount of hair, and my scalp was left with welts that bled. I also felt like the staff here was being extremely defensive and unresponsive. I strongly advise against this business due to their misleading practices and lack of accountability. I am just left with damage done to my hair and scalp and unusable extensions. Even though they state the extensions are “reusable”, they are the ones who have to reinstall as no other salon even reuses k tips, they offered to reinstall them and i have to decline, i do not trust that the same issue won’t just happen again and i don’t really trust a place thatdoesn’t seem concerned about fixing a problem. They never mentioned they could reduce the volume/weight of the extensions, however they claim to have a lot of experience with thin hair, so if you do have thin hair, note this place may not the be place for you despite their claims.Since the installation this has caused me weeks of SEVERE pain, actually needed to be seen by a doctor. They were very cold, dismissive and defensive over the topic of me being in such severe pain, which made me actually kind of uncomfortable.Salons usually care about their work and take pride in it, this place from the outside may seem like that but i really think they are just after your money. Based off the other negative reviews, improper installation DOES Seem to be happening at this salon and based off their responses I wouldn’t be surprised to see a very rude response from the business too.UPDATE: adding pictures of my scalp damage (it hurts so badly) there are many of these welts all over my scalp from this improper installation. There is also a photo showing the amount of hair that fell/ was combed out, which was a lot and my hair is significantly more damaged and thinner than before getting the extensions here. I am also adding pictures of the comments i left on the post they made showing my before and after results. They have deleted my comments and blocked me so I’ll just leave it here. If you love your hair, STAY AWAY from SD Hair Extensions Studio!!!! They improperly install the extensions and it is with great NEGLIGENCE of the salon owners that they allow “students” to install extensions without be checked or supervised. Let me start by saying that the hair technician did not speak any English. I arrived at my appointment time and she was the only employee there. Without consultation or any type of communication, she got to work on my hair. The owner of the salon didn’t show up until extensions were already being installed. I was not able to ask any questions before hand and address any concerns. (In hindsight, I should have waited until I could speak to someone). I have very fine and thin hair. When I booked my appointment I specifically asked about micro capsules and explained that I was concerned because of my fine hair. The capsules that were installed were huge and way too heavy for my fine hair. My head felt like a porcupine. Each capsule had 5 times the amount of hair to what it was being attached to on my head. (Proper technique is to attach the same amount of extension as to the amount of hair it is attached to). In addition to the capsules being too large, my hair was not evenly divided into sections. Hair crossed from one area to another causing the extensions to pull the hair out by the roots. The extensions were also installed with poor tension putting constant strain on my head. After doing a ton more research, I found that with proper installation there should be no pulling or tension. Over a 2.5 week time frame from the time of install, 30-40% of my hair had been ripped out by the roots!!! Had I waited another week or two, I would have had no hair left. The capsules were two completely different colors, dark brown and clear. And the hair was not properly matched. It was very hard to style my hair without the extensions standing out. I followed all of their directions to care from them perfectly. I wish I would have known better and had someone else check them sooner than 2.5 weeks after install. I have since had another salon remove all extensions and properly install them, AND I will say there has been an amazing difference!!! Less

Update to respond to owners response (Oct 2024): How disgusting and unprofessional of you to question my intelligence in how *I* wrote my review and to make an accusation that another salon owner wrote the review. My review was written after HOURS of research and after experiencing proper installation from another salon. I went to two other salons for second opinions after experiencing extreme discomfort and pain. I reached out to you to check the installation and to remedy the situation but you couldn't get me in for 4 days and you stated that you would only spot fix issues. The bottom line is your salon was operating negligently and the extensions were not installed correctly and it was damaging my scalp. Maybe your trainees need to work on proper installation and tension before working on speed of installation. My intent is to bring light to the situation so that you can correct how you possibly operate and so that no one else has to go through the discomfort and stress that this situation put me in. Less

Not only did they not perform what was promised, they ruined my hair and gave me the run around when I asked to have them fix it. Ask them for their cosmetology license and make sure it’s good. I had an all over color done first and the stylist was very thorough and careful with applying the color. Then during the hair washing portion the stylist was very very careful with my hair and paid attention to small details making sure to remove all the color thoroughly. Next came the hair extension install and this was exceptional. The stylist was so careful with making sure to part everything evenly and take exact portions every time. The hair feels very soft and light, not pulling at my scalp in any way. I have thin to medium hair and have never gotten K tips before so I was worried if this would work out for me but I am so beyond happy I decided to go for it and trust this salon with this first time experience. Also they brought me tea and snacks while getting the extensions put in which was so so nice. Everyone works so well together on the team. I am very satisfied and happy with my experience! They really care about your hair and doing the best they can for you. Other people who were here also seem to be happy with how their hair turned out and were smiling and hugging the stylists. Booking and reservation/consultation is really easy and quick. Toma is very nice, she helped me understand and walk me through the whole process and the after care of my hair. There is only one place to come if you are interested in getting extensions...San Diego Hair Extensions Studio. My first visit here was Oct 2021 when I was looking for extensions going into the holiday season. Who doesn't want to have luscious long flowing curls, well that was the goal and starting with my initial phone call all the way up to the day of my service, I received nothing but excellence. If you are new to extensions, here was on super important hair concern for me.. What exactly will you attach to my hair? Is it glue and is that really different from keratin bonding? What will happen when we remove it will my hair be thin and fall out when they fall out from the bonding site? Their response is exactly why I came here: "we use a Keratin tip that will not damage hair quality". Prior to coming here, I had received extensions from another salon here in San Diego, that experience needless to say was so sub par compared to here to include they did not put the pieces in correctly and when they switched to the I-Tip's those were coming out just a month into the placement. This taught me to always research a place that does have extensive knowledge in hair quality and care- SD Hair Extensions Studio does have the cutting edge knowledge. Just like most of my hair appointments, they are never quick but the time did pass quickly. Listening to GOOD music and small conversations, before I knew it, my appointment was over. My hair not only looked so beautiful it was absolutely natural in appearance. The normal length of my natural hair is long (past my shoulders but not by too much). We placed 22-in extensions and let me tell you how different it looked and really made me fell. It was instant super model status! My hair was much fuller in volume and length. Living an active lifestyle and having beautiful hair can be a challenge at times. One concern I had was if there would be damage to my natural hair if I am constantly pulling it back in bun or ponytail. Would the extensions slip out- pull out my hair? Would I even be able to pull it back and not hurt my scalp (remember I had a bad experience before...). All these were put to rest with in first few days of living my normal day to day life. There were no issues at all with pulling my hair back tightly or twisting it around and not pulling on my scalp. There also were no issues at all with brushing it and never having tangles above the extension site. For the first time I have super long hair and can do every single activity without concerns. Let's now jump forward to Jan 2023 as I have coming back religiously since my first appointment. There are not enough raves that I can shout out here. I consistently get the best quality of customer service. When I have needed to be squeezed in due to life time events (all of a sudden everyone is either having a baby shower or getting engaged). Every single employee has been warm and welcoming with out question. Smiles greet you as you walk in and it is always a positively happy environment. Upon each of my visits I am always greeted with Lana's warm, caring and heartfelt conversation until Julia greets me. A lit chit chat and Julia gets right to the hard work. Before you know it we are at the styling part of my appointment and booking my follow up! It was mentioned before and I will say it again, I could not speak highly enough of this salon.
