Shear Genius Salon

Over the years, I have had horrible experiences with hair stylists and had pretty much gotten to the point I only went in to trim the ends and nothing more. Due to allergies and hair loss, I only used the most natural of hair products on my hair and covered my grays with pure henna, something I learned from YouTube. It looked okay, but over the years, I had this long scraggily pyramid looking mess that I always kept in a pony tail or a clip.
After months and months of internet research for the best salon in San Antonio, the same name kept coming up, Norma Renfro. I even read her name in a review for another salon, because Norma had fixed the mistakes made by that salon. All of reviews said the same thing. Norma Renfro of Shear Genius Salon was professional, she listened, she cared and she was a phenomenal stylist. Terrified of another potential hair disaster, I took the chance and wrote the email requesting a quote for service. After an email and a handful of texts, I made a hair appointment for the first time in 7 years.
When you walk into the Phenix Salon, you look at the monitor at the left to find out which suite you need and then follow the directions on the wall.
We had no issues finding the suite. Upon entering Shear Genius Salon, we found a cute and cozy place that makes you feel right at home. The entire space has been decorated in a fun and funky décor that was a visual treat for the eyes. No snobby desk clerk making you feel underdressed or unimportant. Just Norma herself and her counterpart, in a very laid back, comfortable atmosphere. As the waiting area only has two chairs, my husband made himself scarce while I waiting for my appointment.
I had explained to Norma I wanted to dye my hair an auburn color, with some highlights and lowlights. I also wanted to trim it up and put in some layers, the most we could do with my baby fine and thinning hair. Norma listened to all my concerns, told me exactly how she planned on tacking the task. Then she explained that in the end, if I was unhappy for any reason, just to let her know and she would make it right. I immediately relaxed because I knew everything was going to be fine.
Norma was WONDERFUL, not only as a stylist/artist, but as a person as well. I literally felt like I had gone to the home of a good friend for a couple hours of great conversation while she did my hair. The speed and skill in which Norma finished my hair speaks volumes to her knowledge and skill. My hair came out fairytale beautiful! It is an gentle Ombre effect that is darker on the bottom and lighter on top, which I am absolutely in love with. I've attached a picture, but the picture doesn't do it justice. It is absolutely gorgeous in the sunlight.
My husband saw it and his eyes nearly popped out of his head. Standing outside the door of the shop, he said, "I don't care what it costs, you need to go to this lady, (Norma Renfro), always. Go in an make a follow up appointment with her right now. Your hair looks AMAZING." For the remainder of the day, he kept touching my hair and talking about how great it looked, asking why I hadn't made an appointment sooner.
I am not only blessed to have met Ms. Norma, I am super excited that she is now my stylist. No matter what you previous experiences were, I can honestly tell you that no one was more scared to go to a new stylist than I was. I am so glad I did and you will be too.
