I joined FIT after a multitude of injuries from years of endurance training. The trainers are very knowledgeable, providing personalized workout plans tailored to my specific needs. All of the coaches are so helpful and encouraging, but I have to give a shout out to Matt and Shawn, both of whom I have loved working with. This was my first time exercising in a while, but my first time using equipment and lifting weights ever, and they were so receptive to any and all questions I had, and so supportive of my personal improvement. On my initial physical assessment appointment, Jared, the owner, stressed that although many people join a gym with the goal of weight loss (and that's great if that's your goal), their main focus is helping you get stronger and to enjoy the activities you want to do in life, and have an easier time doing them. Even though I'm only two months in, I'm already noticing this in my own life. I re-joined an Okinawan drumming group I used to practice with, and have also joined a Japanese taiko group in Madison, largely due to the renewed confidence I have gained after joining their FIT foundations classes. I've been going to Personal Training at FIT for over 2 years and I LOVE it! My first introduction to the gym was via my kids who were in the ADAPT program. And it's those qualities that gave me the push to sign up myself. I've never been a gym person. Athletic as a kid and college student but not ever, ever a gym person. As my kids were about to leave high school, I started noticing that I had quite a bit of lower back pain, not as much endurance for stuff like yard work, and actually my stability and strength were slipping a little too. I knew exercising was the answer but I was really nervous about going to the gym - I had no idea what the exercises or equipment were - and, like a lot of people, I was worried about not being able to keep up or getting injured. I need not have worried! We set goals at that very first meeting and every 6 weeks we reevaluate those goals. Every single coach at FIT always asks "How are you feeling today?" They always check if you are feeling ok with an exercise, they always answer questions about the exercise you are doing, and they always have a way to modify the exercise so you are comfortable and successful. They build trust - and to me this is the "secret sauce" to FIT. Because I trust my coach - currently the fabulous Matt DeFiebre - I achieve so much and build confidence every single session. As a result I feel better, I no longer have lower back pain and I have extra confidence in my ability to do everyday strength tasks. And when an issue with my body pops up it is analyzed by Sam and a corrective plan is put in place. Always with success. It has amazed me how before FIT, the approach to any of these corrections would be much different than the FIT approach. Keep moving versus not, approach correction from many angles not one, strengthen, mobilize move on. I love it. I have been going to FIT since September and I cannot say enough amazing things! I was hesitant when I first started because I was having a lot of lower back pain that was preventing me from doing a lot of things I love (like basketball) and I’m weary about the emphasis gyms place on weight loss and body image. It can be hard for people without the “media approved” body size to find spaces where you belong, especially in a gym where losing weight is the ultimate goal. Instantly, though, I knew FIT was the place for me. It is such an inclusive space where the emphasis is not on becoming a smaller version of yourself, but instead a healthier, stronger, more confident version. I am able to play basketball now for as long as the court will allow, and it has improved my mental health drastically. I move better, I feel better, and I am overall happier. I’ve made amazing friends (including the coaches) and I’m excited to show up every day, even on the days I don’t feel 100%. The coaches meet you where you are at and I always leave feeling better than when I showed up. FIT is absolutely worth all the time and money I have invested and I’m excited to see where it will take me moving forward. Extra shout out to Shawn, Matt, and Sam! Less

When I returned to weight training this past summer, I experienced the same struggles as I had previously: some muscle groups were relatively easy to see gains while others never seemed to advance. I've been a regular member at FIT for 5 years now and am a strong advocate for this place! Before I started here, I only ever fantasized that I could be the sort of person who works out consistently and stays in shape. As a new business owner and entrepreneur, it was important to me that I have enough energy and focus to make my new company succeed. Also, I was getting married in a few months and wanted to be in good shape at my wedding. I really benefited from the direction of FIT's coaches in the MPT program, now called Foundations. I'd messed around with weights before, but had never really had a consistent program to drive toward goals and increase my strength over time. The group training was particularly effective as a motivator to keep coming in regularly and making progress, which is the key to getting and staying in shape. Within just a few weeks, people who knew me regularly commented that I seemed to be in better shape than ever. I had the focus I needed to grow my business and I loved the feeling of hitting PRs on the different types of lifts. After a few months, I was in the best shape of my life. I've now been in this program for 5 years and it's a regular part of my life and schedule. It forces me to get to bed on time, wake up in the morning, and start the day right. I love the feeling of showering afterward and starting my day with high energy. I know from personal experience that many people are just rolling out of bed groggy by the time I'm ready to rock. I strongly recommend joining FIT, which is not just a place to learn how to get and stay in shape, but also a thriving community of welcoming and positive people. As summer approached I decided it would be the perfect time to really work on creating an exercise habit. Facebook "heard" me and randomly popped up an ad for FIT. Two years later I can say I made one of the best decisions of my life the day I met with Jared. I have scheduled my sessions and followed through because of the coaches and the FIT Family who are encouraging to all levels of fitness and inspiring! Coach Shawn has given me confidence to do more. She will take my equipment and switch it out with something heavier or she'll say "you can do more!" Our workouts are challenging, fun, and sometimes include trivia and an occasional treat! I have been at FIT for 6+ years. The thing that I love most about FIT is its inclusivity and friendly atmosphere. I enjoy the coaches' knowledge and encouragement, and the education they provide (nutrition, kinesiology, sleep, recovery). I greatly appreciate how FIT modified their business plan during the COVID lockdown, making sure we had the resources for home workouts by loaning their equipment to all members. The live Zoom workouts were hard, and kept me on my workout schedule during the pandemic. Transitioning back into the in-gym workouts was easy, and safe. The biggest change I have seen in me is my increase in strength and muscle tone, and a decrease in body fat. FIT is like a group of really great friends, or close family. Weightlifting in general is something I have found intimidating in the past, but it is the thing that I need the most external motivation to accomplish. I can do cardio on my own by going for a walk or a run or a bike ride. Learning lifts, fine tuning my form and lifting heavy at FIT is working. I have been visibly building muscle to a point where I have had several people notice even though building muscle was not my initial goal. I wanted to learn legitimate weightlifting lifts and reinvigorate my fitness goals. I may or may not have an unverbalized goal to be able to lift more than my son. But the second I walked into FIT I knew I found the exact place I was looking for! Coming from injuries I love how knowledgeable and experienced all the coaches are.. Jared was able to nail down the root of my injuries in just the 15 minute assessment and it’s been amazing to see my running feel great again and feel STRONG for the first time in my life! But it’s not only that that keeps me coming back, it’s the staff and the people at FIT that make it such a great community! I was miserable from a back injury 25 yrs ago that flared up during our 3 month car trip throughout west USA. I was miserable from a back injury 25 yrs ago that flared up during our 3 month car trip throughout west USA. I knew I had to get back to the gym after being sedentary but I didn’t want to re-injure myself as I had in the past many times. I came across FIT and thought it was costly but I have got to get great help and I have to commit to going regularly. It has now been 6 months And I have gone from twice daily CBD use, chronic pain, frailty to a 69 year old with strength, better balance, confidence and finally relief from pain! The 1 on 1 training has been a God-send, they have kept me on a steady path of improvement through a variety of exercises so that I don’t overwork an area, use good form and don’t get bored then quit. FIT for life, much better/cheaper than a care facility, hospital visits, CBD, PT docs and fear of falling !! Thank you FIT trainers!!! Less

I’ve been a member at FIT for 7.5 years, and I can’t say enough about this gym. It’s a total body experience. You get crazy effective workouts tailored to your needs, as well as a workout family that helps keep you accountable and enjoying your time while working hard. The trainers get to know you and support you while pushing you to achieve your goals. The other members become your friends. There’s no judgement here. We are a group of individuals that welcome everyone, all shapes and sizes, all ability levels, and almost all ages (teens and adults). This community truly is a happy place for me, even when I’m beyond tired from teaching teenagers all day. I always enjoyed Shawn’s classes at Dragonfly, so I had to try out FIT plus DFLY through the Lift and Let Go workshop in April 2022. Been attending FIT regularly ever since. FIT has been a great addition to my workout routine and increased my upper body strength. They make sure to put you in the appropriate class for your strength and ability level as well. I've been doing the Functional Athlete Training session 3 times a week for at least 2 years. Coach Max does a great job writing our programs and gets to know us and genuinely enjoys working with each client in the gym. Coach Jared makes sure you give your all into each workout. I started training at FIT with the goals of maintaining bone health and general strength conditioning. A year into it, I am very pleased with my progress. My job requires heavy lifting and frequent movement and I am feeling very strong and uncompromised. I have been at FIT over 3 years. I really like the training programs. Each workout is always very balanced and an all over body workout. The trainers are very knowledgeable and personable and help you adapt the program to your needs. Above all it's a great gym community to workout at and I can't see working out anywhere else.
I’ve been at FIT for about 7 months. I really like the time spent with coaches and working out with other people who are also passionate about fitness. I’ve also gotten noticeably stronger even though that wasn’t even the main reason why I joined, so that’s orjbabalh a testament to how well-run the training is.

FIT is amazing! I have been working out at FIT for 4 years. The staff are supportive, encouraging, and help you get stronger every workout; making an effort to get to know each member/athlete. The care they have taken to make sure the gym is COVID safe is impressive and I feel safe each time I visit. I’d be lost without my FIT family!

I have been "consistently" going to F.I.T three times a week for the last two months, minus a two-week Christmas break. :) This last week I noticed a shift that's happening on the inside and I want to share about it. I mainly work from home now and for the majority of my day, I am sedentary. I have been active most of my life, mainly with team sports but also some running. In Nov. '19, my wife and I ran the Madison Half Marathon. We finished under our goal of 2hrs:30mins, but it beat me up. I tried running a few times after, but the desire waned and I slowly drifted from marathon training to marathon "eating, drinking, and being merry". Fast forward a year to Nov.'20. I had been complaining to my wife to stop drying my clothes on such high heat because everything was tight, but what I didn't want to accept or believe is that I had become 50lbs heavier and tipped the scales past 300lbs. OMG!!! It was at this point I knew I needed to do something. I belong to a program at work that partially pays for a gym membership and I began searching for gyms that participate and the first one that came up was F.I.T. I pulled the trigger and joined. The first month, month-in-a-half was brutal and I dreaded going every time. Before each session, my mind and body would conspire against me by coming up with reasons as to why I shouldn't go. I pressed beyond that and just made myself go despite the pain and agony my body was going through. By sticking with it that 'internal shift' that I mentioned at the beginning began to happen. I noticed that my mind and body were no longer conspiring but actually delighting and excited to go. The intensity of the workouts hasn't decreased but I have noticed some significant weight loss (20+lbs), improved self-confidence, and my wife seems to be drying my clothes on low again. YAY!!! The last thing I want to mention that has been THE major contributing factor to the success I have had thus far is the F.I.T staff and other members. The staff is extremely qualified and experienced. The programs are personalized and you track your progress from week to week. They know how to push you beyond what you think your body can handle, but at the same time they are constantly asking for feedback about how you're body's feeling, any injuries updates and they are sensitive to ensure we stay healthy and injury-free. On top of all that, the staff and the members make it fun and enjoyable to work out. Whether it's the music that's played, the dancing that goes on, or the jokes, I no longer dread going but look forward to it. Less

In fact, because of how FIT changed my life, my husband and son also decided to join in. We all feel so good after our training that we have made this as our biweekly family event together. In addition, I love the fact that the place does not feel like a busy smelly gym and has a playground feel to it. So we can't wait to go back and play and be a kid again. I’ve been working out a FIT for several years now. The workouts are awesome, the trainers are awesome and the other members are awesome! The gym is clean and very well equipped. I’ve been going to FIT for a little over a year after my wife had been going for over 5 years. The trainers truly care about teaching proper form and technique to avoid injury. I have worked with other trainers/coaches, but have never had the expertise and encouragement, that I do at FIT. The coaches are there with you every step of the way, encouraging proper technique and form. I used to fear going and working out and now I absolutely look forward to it. When I started, I was nursing some minor injuries. The coaches personalize to your needs to help strengthen those areas properly. I am also learning alot about my nutrition and how to incorporate that into my training and daily life. I feel very welcome at FIT, like family. The FIT environment was the biggest thing that drew me in. I had worked with personal trainers, as well as group training programs, previous to being at FIT but there was always a feeling of a “big guy in the gym” showing it was “his place”. However, working out at FIT is a friendly environment where the trainers, as well as fellow athletes, are willing to help me achieve my goals. Being a competitive person, FIT is a great place where I have met people who push me to do my best every time I step in the gym as well as meet people who I feel comfortable “competing” against and pushing me in my workout. Being a “Late Bloomer” developmentally, it was satisfying to be able to finally see a physical change in my body appearance and continue to break personal records. FIT helped me gain a lot of confidence and achieve goals where I proved myself qualified and was nominated to be a captain for my junior and senior year of High School lacrosse. My greatest payoff was having a dream come true when I began to be recruited by a couple colleges to play lacrosse. Although I did not end up playing lacrosse at the collegiate level, I am still playing club lacrosse and having fun as a starting midfielder at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. I strongly believe that FIT helped me accomplish my personal best throughout my High School athletic career and beyond. He's also been great at modifying exercises so my extremely inflexible 53 year old body can still do them. We're working on the inflexible part too. I'd never do this on my own. The accountability to Luke and the group training atmosphere have been key factors in the successes I've achieved. The staff care about you has humans AND athletes, and get to know everyone. I have progressed through the various class types, up to Olympic Lifting - something I NEVER would have thought to have tried, but the coaches and members are so supportive and encouraging, that you feel empowered to try something new, set new goals and then crush them! What never ceases to amaze me about the workouts is how they continue to challenge you in new and different ways. I’m a 67 year old female with a history of lower back, sacral and balance issues. I’m so grateful to have found F.I.T. My path here has been a matter of jumping from one lily pad to another to cross a pond. (Thanks to author Anne Lamott for the analogy.) I’d been going to another gym for 8 years. I’d made a lot of progress there and gone through two hip replacements with them. I even did some weight lifting and found I enjoyed it. In 2014, I was diagnosed with a slipped vertebra and spinal stenosis. I kept going to the gym, doing the best I could, but by early 2016, I had to quit. The pain was stubborn, unresolved and worsening. No matter what accommodations my coach made, nothing worked. I was at a very low point, but not ready to throw in the towel. I kept looking for the next lily pad. In the summer of 2016 I tried acupuncture and what a difference that made! This gave me hope I might be able to go back to working out. But where? I was looking for a workout more customized to my body and its limitations. I searched the web for a solution. I found an exceptionally helpful site devoted to my spinal condition. This site introduced me to an assessment method called FMS (Functional Movement System). I searched the web again for local providers of FMS and found F.I.T. I was so excited to find a local gym which did an assessment BEFORE they designed your workout. I didn’t hesitate. I picked up the phone and made an appointment with owner Jared Markiewicz. During the intake process, I was impressed and reassured by how much time he took to understand my limitations, mainly my age and my medical issues. I had my first workout Jan 26, 2017. I was nervous because I’m not your typical gym candidate. It takes me a long time to learn body positions and a very short time to forget them, and I was worried about triggering my back issues. And if that wasn't enough, I get anxious and tend to doubt myself. What a stroke of good fortune to be assigned to Coach Luke Briggs. He takes all these things in stride and just keeps moving forward. He believes in me when I don’t believe in myself. He has been very patient and has adapted many of the exercises to my ability level. As a result, I love weight lifting and my back, core and legs are stronger than they’ve ever been. This newfound strength has helped me in so many ways, from reducing my back pain to attending yoga to volunteering at Heartland Farm Sanctuary. At 67, I thought most of the things I liked to do were a thing of the past, but thanks to F.I.T. I’ve got a new lease on life! Here's why I recommend F.I.T. * Use of the Functional Movement Assessment * Coaches are knowledgeable, friendly and they love to laugh. * Coaches adapt to fit your needs and limitations. F.I.T. is the best gym I've ever worked out in. A really serious, no-nonsense weight-lifting gym for people of all ages, from teens to old folks like me. The trainers are extremely knowledgeable and attentive, and the entire team is very friendly. The facilities are always clean and they have great equipment. Consider checking them out! I just received an email from FIT congratulating me on my one year anniversary there. One year ago I went there weighing the heaviest I have ever been, knowing that something needed to be done, not just because of the weight, but because I lacked self-esteem, confidence, energy, & all the other things that made me love who I was, pre-baby weight. Today, I'm down 50 pounds, & FEEL AMAZING!!!!!!! I really can't say enough great things about this facility, & all the trainers there that have helped me get to where I am today! From the professionalism, cleanliness, knowledge of trainers, nutritional guidance, gauging of strength, & helping individuals do what they can without causing injury, etc. Anyone can go to a "gym," & workout, but FIT holds you accountable for your success, & progress! I consider this my home away from home, & love the way I feel when I leave there after every workout! Less

I've been going to FIT for about 6 months now and it's going great! The coaches are very helpful, and really work with you on proper form and getting stronger. I joined as a beginner with weight training, and the FIT coaches tailored my program based on my experience, injury history, and goals. It's amazing to see how far I've come along in 6 months, and I can honestly say I'm in the best shape I've been in for years. I'm currently in a FIT member challenge group, and it's given me the extra competition needed to focus more on my lifestyle outside the gym. The group is sharing outside workouts and recipes/meal choices via a FB group, and we're having a great time with it! FIT truly has something for anyone, from beginners to extreme athletes. Their non-intimidating approach makes it very easy and comfortable to learn the ropes, and their members will help build your motivation. Less
FIT is my happy place!! I've been to all the other gyms and fit is the only one I don't dread getting up and going to.
Going to FIT has been a great addition to my training I do for bike racing. The guys at FIT have worked with my to build a plan that fits my training and racing schedule perfectly. Likewise, I have had one of the best racing seasons in the last 10+ years of bike racing!

FIT creates an environment that is approachable yet will push and develop you as an athlete. Over the years, FIT has helped me in my preparation for world championship level triathlons, to helping me have a healthy and active pregnancy/postpartum, to getting through injuries, to getting ready for big ski touring trips and ski seasons, to developing me as a strength athlete! I've been at FIT for a few years, and it's a fantastic gym that emphasizes proper movement, progression, and individualized training, from beginners wanting to 'get off the couch' to developing and very accomplished athletes. I have a background as an endurance athlete and general adventure lover, enjoying running, biking, hiking, skiing, swimming, climbing, and whatnot, and love to be outside. Before I went to FIT and saw what an individualized program could do, I failed to see value in strength work or how it could enhance and compliment my other training. But FIT is not about randomly throwing around weights, or extreme or nonsensical workouts to make someone feel 'tough' and physically destroyed. They WILL push you at FIT, but they also place a huge emphasis on proper progression, movement, and appropriately loading an athlete from where each individual is at. They have an incredible eye to make sure that things are being done very well down to the smallest movements and nuances, and they understand that performance doesn't come from a few workouts, but is a lot of small things consistently being done very well over a long period of time, and that is what gets results. FIT has managed to create a results and performance oriented gym that is also very welcoming, approachable, and actually fun! Less
FIT has amazing coaches and in the 3 years I've been a member I'm in the best shape I've been since being in my 20s. The classes are fun and challenging. Great gym!
I just had to share that this morning I tried on a pair of jeans that I haven't even looked at since last summer. At that time, they were too small for me - like cannot be seen in public, too small. When I put them on this morning they were almost too big! I was shocked and while I knew I was gaining strength and confidence, I did not realize the progress I had been making!!
They've done great for me getting me stronger and prepare for my longer endurance rides. I LIke the personalized attention, the trainers actually listen and come up with a strength and movement plan based on your history and goals.

Max has been great at guiding and advising me through my training blocks. He's patient, never pushy, and puts you in a position to always accomplish more. UPDATE (April 2018): I have been at FIT for about two years now, and I can't imagine being anywhere else! Having progressed through MPT, APT and now to Olympic Lifting, the effects of FIT are present in my physical, mental, and emotional health. The people, the workouts, and the general environment make any day better! Finally found a place that places the emphasis on safety and progress! I'm finishing my first month here, and one thing that I like most is that the trainers really push you out of your fitness comfort zone, helping you try to do things that you might never have though of doing or would be too nervous to do. I was very happy with working out at FIT. Jared and his team are TOP NOTCH. To bad I moved away two years ago, however Jared is so awesome he even emailed me my old workouts from two years ago so I can try to follow them where I live now. If you want to hit your goals, go with Jared and his team!!

I love going to F.I.T. When I first started going, I was weak and achy. Now, after 6 months, I am strong and I don't ache like I did before. My heartfelt thanks to Jared and the whole team for changing my life and my attitude about fitness. I am still a work in progress, but I am so much better than I was before coming to F.I.T.

A phenomenal experience! Jared is a caring and motivated coach with a huge knowledge base. He loves what he does and clearly shares that passion with those he coaches. This fitness facility is unlike any other gym in the area!
I love F.I.T. it is the motivation I need to keep going. Just as I start getting complacent...last week...the trainer mix it up again. Keep us guessing and excited!!
