Goldberg Centre Vision Correction

I had a very disappointing experience with the clinic’s communication and refund process after my consultation.I paid a $350 exam/consultation fee through Flexiti and later decided not to proceed with surgery at this time due to personal scheduling and recovery considerations. I did not make any negative statements about Dr. Goldberg’s competence, and I did not say that I “don’t trust” the clinic - however, my decision was repeatedly characterized that way in email communications, which I found upsetting and unnecessary.I acknowledge that I signed clinic documentation; however, the appointment involved multiple eye tests, and because I blink frequently, several tests had to be repeated. I also did not sleep well the night before, so I became quite fatigued by the end of the visit. As a result, I believe there may have been misunderstanding or lack of clarity regarding the consultation fee and how it would be applied. I also waited approximately 45 minutes before seeing Dr. Goldberg for what was a brief exam (about 10–15 minutes). I understand urgent situations can happen, and I respect that - I stayed and completed the appointment out of respect for the doctor’s time.I also want to clarify that the clinic may state that I was “exempted” from the $550 eye exam fee. However, the exam is advertised as free on their website, and I also confirmed this with the clinic prior to attending my appointment. My appointment took place on a Friday, and on Saturday I noticed through my Flexiti account that a payment schedule had already been set up including the surgery, testing, and Dr. Goldberg’s fee. I was not contacted to confirm whether I was still proceeding with the agreed surgery date before the payment schedule appeared. I only became aware of it by checking my Flexiti account myself, which added to the stress and confusion and made me feel pressured during an already exhausting appointment process.I reached out to the clinic on Monday morning to discuss a reasonable resolution. I did not request a full refund ($350, Dr. Goldberg examination) initially - I was simply trying to find a fair middle ground, as I did not feel that a $350 charge was reasonable under the circumstances (45-minute wait for a short consultation).I also suggested handling the matter by phone, as I felt email back-and-forth was creating unnecessary confusion and misunderstanding. However, communication remained primarily through email, and the tone became increasingly adversarial. In my initial email, I stated that “I hoped to resolve the matter amicably and without escalation, and that if any inaccurate statements were being attributed to me, I may need to seek advice through appropriate channels.” This was NOT intended as a threat, but it was repeatedly framed that way in subsequent communications, and this became the main focus rather than resolving the original concern. This email exchange continued for two weeks. The refund position also changed multiple times (no refund → waiting for legal → refund offered with conditions), which added a lot of stress.Ultimately, I was told a full refund would only be processed if I attended the clinic in person to sign a waiver with a witness, despite living +4 hours away and requesting secure electronic signature options or even a video call for identity confirmation. I understand clinics have policies, but I expected a more practical and patient-focused approach to resolving a straightforward concern, especially given the travel distance and extreme winter conditions.Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling uncomfortable and disrespected.
